Analysis Of State Of Union Address: Obama Wins Back The People

It is hoped that what President Obama expressed in his speech will come to fruition in the near future but to bring about the kind of change he indicated will take time.

Thus, only time will tell.

In the meantime, patience is a virtue?

Yes We Can Obama Musical In Germany!

It is not the first time President Obama has been the inspired subject of a musical play. Last year, “Obama On My Mind” in London and “Obama: The Musical” in Nairobi, Kenya premiered. Barack Obama can now add a third musical creation to his tribute entitled “Hope — the Obama Musical Story” premiering this weekend in Germany. It starts 20 years ago when he was a community organizer and leads all the way to his presidency, concentrating mostly on his electoral campaign. Songs with quotes of politicians’ blundered speeches during the U.S presidential campaign of 2008 will be sung along with John McCain and Sarah Palin. There will even be duets with Hillary Clinton and love songs from Obama to wife Michelle.

How sweet!

The piece is set in Obama’s hometown of Chicago and meant to show “the great, collective emotion” there was for change for a better life”.

The 30 performers involved are ”rehearsing 12 hours a day” to perfect their kicks, Jimmie Wilson who plays Obama enthused.

Audience members can even get involved with the mini drums they will have built in their chairs. To attend the blessed event, you can buy tickets for the premiere online and only the premiere since it is being used as an ‘interest’ indicator.

The tickets range from euro40 to euro149 ($58 and $215).

Thousands Dead In Haiti Earthquake

A massive earthquake measuring a 7.0 magnitude hit Haiti destroying a great deal of the capital of Port-au-Prince on Tuesday, January 12th. It is being called “le seisme devastateur” by Creole and French internet news updates. A trail of bodies line the streets with incalculable others still trapped beneath the rubble as thousands of structures and buildings including the Haitian official jail, National Palace and the U.N. peacekeeping headquarters collapsed in the wake of the disastrous quake.

The collapse of the jail aided prisoners to escape while the rest of the Haitian populous inquired and reported the losses of family members on Radio Verite, a Haitian interest radio station.

Hugues Sanon, the DJ said,”People are calling, crying, I cannot cry myself. But in my heart, I’m crying. When you have someone saying ‘my father died, my sister died…’ You try to be strong.” The DJ himself is unaware if his 3-year-old son survived as he was in an area where the earthquake struck.

Community leaders have spoken on the radio station providing new information while the station attempts to unify the Haitian Community with announcements of meetings such as the one, David Romelus of Unity for Development has planned for 8 pm, at the Haitian community center on Madison Avenue in Elizabeth tonight.

President Obama has indicated the full support of the United States Government will be used to deliver humanitarian relief in terms of food, medicine and water while they help remove those trapped in the buildings.

Executive Chief of Google Blames America For Economic Downturn

Eric Schmidt and Google Co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin

Google’s Eric Schmidt had a few words to share on what or WHOM he thought caused the financial crisis and surprise he blames America! But honestly, we knew this. Information concerning overpaid Wallstreeters created no wonder for us common as inevitably financial resources were exhausted so much so that the market was unable to keep up.

Schmidt says that in May 2008 he noticed a decline in the “metrics” that are used to measure advertising revenue from each click on a Google advert. All was not well in the land of Google.

“We couldn’t figure out why. Was it that people weren’t buying? We initially thought it was our error. Was it possible to make a mistake? Through the summer it was obvious that something had changed. It started in Britain in late May and I remember sitting there thinking what the hell is going on? Is this a trend, is this something unique to Britain? We now understand that it was a shift in consumer behaviour that was an early indication of what was to happen in banking.”

But Schmidt is certain of America’s culpability and wants to be clear “that the blame, to the degree that there was, is largely in the United States, not in Europe, not in Britain, and it was fundamentally because a low-interest policy created too much money. It was an easy-money policy and eventually an easy-money policy catches up with you. Remember what happened. Through a series of events in the mid-1990s, Congress increased the supply of credit for home mortgages, through the institutions Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. They were essentially given too much money for political reasons. And then that was followed in New York by the repeal of Glass-Steagall which then allowed banks to use investment equity vehicles to create liquidity which creates very large amounts of money. So the banks are busy creating money and making a lot of money on that creation of money and the regulators were either, depending on your point of view, asleep at the wheel or did not have the tools to understand what was going on.”

Though Google stock itself is thriving in its third quarter even without their release of their revolutionary Nexus One last week, Schmidt does think about the million people who have lost jobs, or livelihoods or businesses and angrily recommends that bankers should stop lamenting about loss since ”the number of people who were hurt by the activities of the financial industry is so large [that] it is very hard to have a lot of sympathy with that industry given the high-flying nature of its behaviour, remember, many of these institutions privatized the gains and socialized the losses. [You could say] that the banking industry should not be regulated but it should also be able to fail — that’s called capitalism. It is very easy to understand. You’re a banker, you make a loan, and if you screw up you lose your job and the firm is liquidated. But if you pick any one of the financial companies [involved in the crisis] that is not what happened. What happened was the regulators decided that the pounding of the financial industry would have paralysed the world because of the inter-linking. I think that argument is correct. If your assumption is that there is a greater and greater concentration of large financial institutions that are too big to fail, well, they need to be more regulated. You cannot have a situation where you only win and do not lose in capitalism. At Google, if I lost $10bn in one day I would like to lose my jacket.”

We like the way you talk Mister, then again think of this. Schmidt admitted last year that the economy was taking a toll on Google and look where it is now! “”To fight that you have to actively manage the company. You have to take an aggressive position on investment, invention and innovation. And there are companies that have done this very well, for example Apple, which had a near-death experience and has come back with a tremendous performance, so it is possible to do it.

As one of most powerful CEOS in the world and co-chairman of this year’s World Economic Forum in Davos, Schmidt will be leading talks with Peter Sands, the CEO of Standard Chartered concerning 2010 themes of how ready we are to resuscitate the economy. He will also be heard by the likes of ”Bill and Melinda Gates, Howard Stringer, CEO of Sony, Sir Martin Sorrell, chief executive of WPP, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, Google’s founders, Lloyd Blankfein, chairman of Goldman Sachs, a sprinkling of royalty, a whole cadre of economists and academics and a fair few politicians including David Cameron and Tony Blair”, a powerful if not influential audience.

He says that ”it is easier for America to adopt permanent immense spending — the deficit that you can see — because of the role of the dollar as the world’s reserve currency.”

Also as a firm supporter of Obama, he commends him for the work he’s done despite the challenges he has faced in his first year as President.

Smart Smart Smart.

Weatherproof Uses Obama In Their Billboard Without His Knowledge

This is the billboard for Weatherproof at the corner of 41st St. and 7th Ave. in Manhattan with a picture of the President Obama in China.

Though the President looks good on a poster, which no one would deny, the White House is not so amused! A representative for the White House said, “This ad is clearly misleading because the company suggests the approval or endorsement of the president or the White House that it does not have.”

Freddie Stollmack, president of Weatherproof defended the usage of Obama’s image stating that in his presidential visit to China, he recognized the jacket and investigated. “With a magnifying glass, we saw our logo and zipper pull, and we said, ‘That’s our coat.’ ” He continues, “Is it a calculated risk? Not being an attorney — I’m being, really, a designer, merchandiser guy in the apparel business — I would leave that to the attorneys or whatever. We’re not saying President Obama endorses Weatherproof apparel. If we were to get a letter or a call from the White House saying they didn’t approve of it or they didn’t like it or whatever, or they see it as an ad, we’ll do whatever we have to do. We’re not looking to alienate the White House.”

Even though an injunction could be sought against Weatherproof by President Obama, a partner at Flaster Greenberg in Philadelphia said, “the advice any good lawyer will give is sometimes there are fights not worth fighting and if Barack Obama were to win this fight, he would in fact be rewarding the bad actor, simply because the fight itself”.

Technically that could mean all companies could do the same and use any one who wears their clothes to endorse their apparel. It doesn’t mean everyone should though.

2009 A Year Of Media Insanity?

LOL, sad but kinda hilarious…and sad

Justin Bieber singing for President Obama

Canadian born Justin Bieber singing Stevie Wonder‘s Someday at Christmas. Apparently the sweetheart was nervous accounting for the constant switching of the mic from hand to hand. Initially, we were not fans of the 15-year-old because of strange unhealthy amour teeny bopper lyrics we assume hope he was told to sing.

In any case, very sweet

Obama invites Indian Prime Minister as first official state visitor

It seems everyone is bridging the gap between India and the North American lands. Harper recently signed agreements with India this past week while Obama lunched with the Indian Prime Minister today as his first official state visitor during his administration and if you dont know, this is a very big deal!

Obama as well intends to consolidate ties with India and has promised to visit the country next year.

We wonder if the Indian people are loving it as much as Obama and Harper are.

The Obama Effect: Letterman’s Ratings Soar!

Oh the Americanos and the drama with Healthcare Reform.

In case you were not aware, President Obama is attempting to pass a bill through which will form an accessible system of healthcare to everyone

Obama was also on Letterman last night. It will not be surprising to see the President’s approval rating follows suit!
”The appearance of Barack Obama on Late Show with David Letterman gave the leader in late night programming his highest ratings in four years, only to be beaten by the elusive Oprah in 2005!

Monday’s season opener garnered a 5.6 household ratings! And although that number may not be impressive to you, we’ll try and put it in layman’s terms – he killed it!

Letterman’s viewership was 195% higher than the Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien and 27% above the 10pm Jay Leno Show.

Now, what are the ratings on healthcare reform?!”

President Obama Remembers Ted Kennedy

Upon hearing the news that Ted Kennedy had passed, Obama released this statement sharing his condolences with the Kennedy family.
“Michelle and I were heartbroken to learn this morning of the death of our dear friend, Senator Ted Kennedy. For five decades, virtually every major piece of legislation to advance the civil rights, health and economic well being of the American people bore his name and resulted from his efforts. I valued his wise counsel in the Senate, where, regardless of the swirl of events, he always had time for a new colleague. I cherished his confidence and momentous support in my race for the Presidency. And even as he waged a valiant struggle with a mortal illness, I’ve profited as President from his encouragement and wisdom.
An important chapter in our history has come to an end. Our country has lost a great leader, who picked up the torch of his fallen brothers and became the greatest United States Senator of our time. And the Kennedy family has lost their patriarch, a tower of strength and support through good times and bad.
Our hearts and prayers go out to them today–to his wonderful wife, Vicki, his children Ted Jr., Patrick and Kara, his grandchildren and his extended family.”
