Another Reason To HATE Barbie

Mattel has partnered with CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) to celebrate the launch of their newest doll, Barbie Basics, who comes in the little black dress with scarves, purses, shoes or jewelry in accessory kits.  WWD reveals designers Isaac Mizrahi, Rachel Roy, Justin Giunta, Lorraine Schwartz, Alexis Bittar, Monica Botkier, Deborah Lloyd of Kate Spade, Albertus Swanepoel and Devi Kroell all had their chance to recreate the little noir number.

Senior vice president of marketing for Barbie Stephanie Cota said, “Each designer expressed his or her individual style by transforming their original Barbie Basics doll into a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. The use of unique materials, special fabrics and, in one case, real diamonds, demonstrate how to infuse one’s own style and personality by accessorizing.”

For those who are interested in getting their hands on an Haute Barbie, they will be auctioned from Thursday, January 28th to February 7th, on eBayBarbie x CFDA starting from an opening bid of $100.

And the great thing about this is that all proceeds will go to CFDA’s scholarship program and educational initiatives.
